About
I’m a New York-based writer and creative. Ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated with storytelling and creating immersive narrative experiences. This idea is the through line in my portfolio. Whether it’s developing engaging copy for clients, designing my own books, or helping to curate exhibitions, I’m passionate about crafting work that has universal appeal with a personal touch.
To illustrate that this is truly a lifelong passion, my portfolio is as comprehensive as it can be. I’ve included work that I did as a twelve year old, as well as my more recent publications. Yes, looking back at old work can be cringe-inducing, but it’s a reminder of how much I’ve grown and will continue to grow. I think that my creative sensibilities have largely stayed the same, though they have, of course, been deepened by life experience.
The diagram you see on the home page is my childhood bedroom, which is also the subject of many of the photos that grace the background of my portfolio pages. I chose this as the unifying visual theme because I still feel my childhood bedroom is the most pure expression of myself– the Pepto Bismol pink walls, the desk in disarray, the Felix the Cat clock giving me sideye. In other words, the joy and whimsy of uninhibited creative freedom are on full display here, and, though my current bedroom looks a bit different, this ethos is one that I bring with me to every space I enter. This, I think, is my greatest achievement.
But if you want the more boring stuff…
I graduated with my Master’s in journalism from The New School with a 4.0 GPA. My advertising efforts have earned the attention of Adweek and AdAge, and I was recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for my journalistic prowess. I’ve been published by V Magazine, VMAN, HelloGiggles, The A.V. Club, and GARAGE. Right out of college, I started working for Sarankco as an Associate Copywriter after interning and freelancing for them for the previous two years. All the while, I also maintained my own creative projects, including Odradek and Hype Zine, both of which I founded.
TL;DR: Hannah Hightman is an enthusiastic self-starter who is always eager to take on new challenges. She may be a little too pink-obsessed for some tastes, but she knows when to scale it back.
